Though the movie is supposed to take place in the South Pacific it was actually filmed in St.Lucia (in the Caribbean). The main building in the movie was a restaurant, named Rain, and in the late 1980’s and I had dinner there once. Intense acting by Joan, as always. In the film I mean. The story it was based on was written by Somerset Maugham (one of my favorite writers), and features Joan as Sadie Thompson – who a travelling missionary has got it in his head that his faith will cure Sadie of her wicked womanly wonton ways.
