You’re right that the first picture looks a little like the mystery gal photo, but then the first picture is very odd. It is definitely Garbo in “Mata Hari,” but it appears to be an unretouched photo. It looks like Greta had a very long day. I have never seen her with the wrinkles above her left eye or the generally saggy look. The same photo came up in Google images, colorized, and she looks MUCH fresher.
That’s what makes it hard to identify these shots sometimes. They are illusions, and anyone’s looks can be changed a great deal by make-up, lighting, retouching, and computer effects. I’m sure that with a little work I could look like Garbo in a photo, while in real life I more resemble Tor Johnson.
