Well, with Joan’s massive array of freckles they had to put on a ton of make up or retouch photos!
While obviously John Gilbert and Ramon Navarro are two different people and both existed… I have to admit the picture of Greta I posted yesterday in what is definitely “Mata Hari” – the guy looks like John Gilbert. But he wasn’t in the film. Ramon was.
Okay, I’m wrong. Jeez, try to start a conspiracy theory around here and what do you get…
Well… You might be on to something. It may have said Ramon was in the film but it was actually John (and like I said the actor looks more like John than Ramon when you look at other pictures of them). A grand conspiracy! But our resident Ramon Navarro expert assures us that it was indeed him being seduced and bamboozled by Greta.
And I am no Ramon Navarro expert, indeed. Though I’m thinking I may have to be soon judging from some of the pictures I’ve been finding.
This is more press than my Ramon has gotten in 50 years!
You guys need to see some of his movies, especially “The Pagan” and “The Barbarian.” Luscious. In the latter he kidnaps a near-naked Myrna Loy. Heaven.
And although Greta did indeed try to “seduce and bamboozle” Ramon in “Mata Hari,” knowing his tastes I can guarantee you her boozle never got bammed.
I’ve only seen Ramon Navarro in “Mata Hari” and that was a long time ago. Will have to see that again and the two you recommended. If I ever get around to signing up for Netflix & they have them. May also be on Youtube.
Ramon isn’t really my cup of tea in terms of his looks but I do definitely admire him for being so openly gay, even at the cost to his career, in Hollywood “back in the day”.
I’ll start another post/thread where we/anyone can gush about what actors and actresses over the years do rock our boats.
Sounds like a fun thread. My tastes are changing. I never thought Robert Mitchum was attractive when I was a kid, but I’ve seen some of his early movies lately and uhf! And maybe you can explain Montgomery’s appeal. Thank goodness we all have different favorites, or everyone would be after my Ramon. And don’t judge his looks until you see him act in something fun. He’s one of those people who is attractive in part for the way he moves and smiles. OMG am I in love or what.
