I once took the night train from London to Edinburgh. Left London late, rolled through the very densely populated and well lit south and east of England, fell asleep, and then woke up in far northern England where it was all dark, empty moors. Wasn’t sure where I was, didn’t realize I had fallen asleep, or wasn’t even sure if I was even awake – such a contrast to the beginning of the trip. Very surreal, very much like Hitchcock’s early masterpiece “The Lady Vanishes”.
