Fifth Anniversary

5

So today is the 5th anniversary of the creation of this blog, though postings in the first 2 years were pretty sporadic. The blog has evolved over the years and not even I know where it may go in the future. I have been blown away by how many people have found this blog and seem to enjoy it. Over 800,000 views in 5 years and now averaging 1,000 views per day from around the world. Half the views are from the USA and half from around the world with France and Germany on average around 10% each. The rest mainly come from other parts of Europe, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, and from a smattering of Islamic nations. There are only 6 countries/territories/islands in the world that have not accessed this blog at some point (5 central African nations and stupid Turkmenistan). The most viewed pictures have been from all categories – I like a variety of things, as you can tell, and don’t want to make this blog solely about any one subject such as vintage movie stars or shirtless men.

One of the best things about this blogging experience is that I’ve met 2 funny and informative people through it, something I never anticipated by throwing up pictures on the net. Dan in Guadalajara has been a great contributor and very informative. Daniel has been extremely funny and helpful and I am glad that we actually met this summer, him coming from a long distance to visit me on my island (yes, I really do live on an island). There have been close to 2,000 comments so far. Please feel free to add info, links, critiques, and corrections. However, keep it civil. Thankfully there have only been a handful of snarky comments over the years (which I do not approve for posting). Rudeness is never attractive, darlings.

I get the images you see here on my blog from 100s of sites I visit regularly each month or hit upon by chance. I am torn about the whole issue of linking to sources for a variety of reasons: This isn’t Tumblr so there is no automatic link to a source page, the source got it from others reblogging it a 1000 times; it would add a lot of time doing links and I don’t have unlimited free time; and since I do get pix from all over I couldn’t possibly remember where I got each one. As a new feature I will try to sporadically give some links to various pages that might be of interest. As always, if you own an image or it is copyrighted please drop me a note and I will either remove it or give proper credit where credit is due. I don’t make any $ from this site and do not link to commercial sites or, as yet, any sites with nude images.

Now on with the show!

  1. Hi
    Happy No. 5 Anniversary!!
I am a relative new member of the Fan Club.
Very Happy I stumbled upon this Island of Misfit Toys!
I look forward each and everyday to your random posts which are always very interesting, sometimes provide a challenge personally to do research and always entertaining!
Thank you for all you do and
Best Wishes for many more years to come!
    Always,
    Robert Scott

  2. Hey Robert, welcome aboard! Glad you are enjoying yourself here. Please feel free to add comments or more info (and kindly correct me if I misidentify something). Where-abouts are you from?

    • Hi Matthew,
Thank you and I already have made a few comments (Picklehaubs) and corrected you in a couple of posts in a nice way!
What I love most about this Island is that your posts are so random and all over the board, like my brain is most days!
      I reside in Lexington, Kentucky.
I was born and raised in a small town in Southern California, Riverside to be exact.
So very nice to meet you and keep up the Excellent work!
It’s always a Highlight of my Days recently.
      Always,
      Robert

  3. Congrats, Matthew! I should look back and see when I started to follow you–it was a Judy Garland post, of course!–but I know it must be three years or so. As you know I like the old movie star photos the most, especially when I can identify someone or name the film, or share some trivia. But I really enjoy everything you post. It is fun to see how men together can segue into bearded statues to Islamic Art and flowers you have planted on the island…

Thanks for the shout-out! I feel famous, mentioned on the Internet machine. That doesn’t count toward my 15 minutes, does it?

Keep up the good work. Cool that you are part of so many people’s day!
