  1. Yes, I really am. But only for 6 months of the year (November – April) and I’m cutting trees and doing clearing (small and large scale) for landscaping purposes rather than huge forestry operations. Where I live trees grow like weeds, they grow faster than I could ever possibly cut them. They are also all spruce trees, which I understand are just about the poorest tree species as far as CO2 consumption. So I’m not contributing to the global problems of deforestation and carbon dioxide issues. And it’s nice, on this island that is still 99% covered in forest despite my work, to see some fields, open vistas to the ocean, cleaned up areas of diseased or fallen trees, and create breaks to protect homes from forest fires. All of which is growing back almost as fast as I can cut it. The work keeps me in good shape too, no need to run to a gym after work!

I cleared out a couple of acres/a hectare around my house and it has now become a much more ecologically rich little biosphere as a result – lots of fruiting bushes, different natural species of trees such as birch and pine, grasses, etc. – all of which has been supporting a much bigger bonanza of bird life, deer, rodents, etc. than the original one-species dense and diseased spruce forest ever did. And in the summer months I plant fruit trees (amongst many other things) for landscaping customers so it’s not all about killing trees, LOL.
