So today is the 6th anniversary of this blog/site. I feel like I should say something but I’m not feeling particularly brilliant today. It’s funny though that this all started out as a way to share miscellaneous images with a couple of friends and now, 6 years later this site has been viewed almost 1.4 million times by people in just about every nation and territory in the world. At least 2/3 of the views have been from the US, France, and Germany. The only nations that don’t regularly show up here are those in Central America & the Caribbean, much of sub Saharan Africa, Central Asia, and the Baltic states. Hey, your loss.
I’ve posted around 28,000 images in these last 6 years. I wish I could post more (I certainly have a trove of images) but there’s only so much time and energy in the day to do everything. It apparently bears repeating (since I get requests for permission to use images posted here) that 99.9% of the images I post I DO NOT OWN. I just find them around the internet and re-post them. I try to give credit for an image if it was identified wherever I found it, and I’ll try harder in the future to do so. But this isn’t Wikipedia, folks, and the primary “mission” here is just to share images that made me stare, think, laugh, or somehow tickled my aesthetic. Another thing that apparently bears repeating is that I don’t want anyone thinking that because, once in a blue moon, I post a picture of some very unsavoury person such as of a Nazi, or Stalin, or an autocratic Hottie McTottie like the last Tsar of the Russian Empire that I subscribe to their line of thought or their movement. I am no Nazi, Commie, Fascist, or Royalist and I assure you I am quite atheist and totally not involved in any religion.
I love it when people comment or discuss things and I am glad that everyone is being civil about it even if I make a glaring mistake. Please do let me know of any mistakes and/or more information. I still think adding source links to images is something I won’t do. This platform isn’t really designed for it and I find images all over the ‘net and I do mean ALL over so I couldn’t possibly remember what comes from where. I want to provide some links to a few places now and then so you can check out some other nice sites.
Today’s my brother’s birthday, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s also the blog’s anniversary but I can’t remember the connection now. Though he has been gone for 20+ years now I think of him every day. Even now, after all this time, 100’s of people still remember him – he was that much of a shining star. Here’s to you David Burns!
