I’m pretty good at world geography but I have to admit I had never heard of Czernowitz. Turns out it’s one of those cities that has been part of many different countries and empires over the years. Situated near the borders of Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova everybody has claimed it at one point it seems. It is currently in Ukraine.
