‘Design for Living’ is highly recommended! Lubitsch had an amazing run in the 20’s and 30’s, and this is one of the best. Three beautiful people who love each other–now that is something I can go for! When Gary Cooper gets mad at Fredric March and Miriam Cooper and say’s ‘I loved you both!’ I almost fainted. Long live the pre-codes!
I’ve seen it – actually not that long ago. Fun in that non-slapstick early talkies comedy way. However, as devoted Bette Davis fan and knowing how much Bette hated Miriam I won’t say anything nice about Miriam’s performance. But it was this film that made me realize what makes Gary Cooper so damn sexy – he’s not the most handsome of the golden era stars but the way he moves. Exudes sexiness. Sigh.
