I absolutely LIVE for your blog — the pics, your comments, everything (especially the men in their swimwear! WOOF!) — thank you for the excellent job you do with your blog for the enjoyment and benefit of everyone.
With respect and appreciation, I did want to weigh in on your identification/titling of this particular photo: the man in the picture is definitely wearing a kilt but is definitely not standing with a ‘cello — he is next to an upright bass, also known as a string bass or a contrabass. The ‘cello (short for “violoncello” — did you know that?) is about half the size of the instrument in the photograph (it sounds an octave higher than the contrabass).
With best wishes and deepest gratitude,

Thank you for your appreciative words, glad you are enjoying the show! And thank you for correcting me in a friendly way. I’ll make the correction to the caption. A lot of the pictures I come across have no information about them and then sometimes I make my best guess or come up with some vague title to hide my ignorance. Other times I research and try to find out more. I can’t say that I know enough about classical instruments to know the difference between a cello and a bass. I do know the Boston area well though – Cambridge, Lexington, and Weston being some of my former stomping grounds.
