It looks funny but it seems very serious. The guy here is re-enacting the glorious days of the greek heroes of Homere, the Illiad and Odyssee. He is wearing the battle gear of the Mycenian greek warriors of Homere, with the wool protections and garnements. The legs protections (cnymed) are of bronze and short, the armor is lamelar aritculated in bronze typical of those times. The ax is mycenian. Normally, the guy is naked under his wool skirt ! Notice that the guy is shaved too as some greek warriors prefered. He is not spartan as those guys had very long hair.
Nice pic, a bit funny for our contemporary eyes but awe inspiring in the late bronze, early iron age of the trojan wars ! (circa -1200 BC if I remember well)

I have to admit I know very little about ancient Greek history so this was interesting information. Modern day soldiers should wear mini-skirts split up to their waist too!
