  2. I think it used to be worse decades ago but it’s still alive and well. The disdain of the working class has enabled or been used to justify paying them less than they are worth. On the surface I am working class – by the nature of my work (gardening and lumberjack) and my income – yet I grew up in a fairly wealthy family and was educated at the very best universities in Canada and the US. People have no idea what to make of me. Many of the upper class look down on me (based on my job/income) while many in the working class think I’m upper class because of my background and elite accent in both English and French.
