  1. Dear Matt, greetings from Paris !

Nice pic, it is the famous castle of Chambord, a flamboyant piece of french renaissance architecture, built for king François Ier, last chivalrous king akin to the legenday Bayard and La Palisse and many others. I served during my army into the 10th Armored Division a unit directly decending from François Ier knights heavy cavalry. However, I never saw live action. Well, notice that Chambord is one of the first royal castles without any military attributes or functions, a sign of sounder royal power over the french territory, the mark of absolute monarchy, when France was in peace a few decades before the awful Religion Wars of 1560-1598 or so. Chambord is in a marvelous Val de Loire, the valley of kings since many centuries, a very very nice place.

    marvelous nope ?

    • Hey Franck, Thanks for the information. I had no idea which castle it was or in which part of France. I’ve been around a lot of France at different times but I’ve never been to the Loire valley, central France, Lille, or Alsace. Glad you did not see any combat. I was never in the military but one time, in rural Bretagne, I wandered into a field that was about to be used by French soldiers for weekend target practice. That was scary!
