Many Americans/Canadians celebrate Cinco de Mayo by getting drunk on tequila and eating Mexican food, having no idea what the holiday actually is about. Some think that it’s Mexico’s independence day (it is not) or it has something to do with the Mexican Revolution (it does not). It celebrates the day in 1862 the Mexicans defeated the French who were trying to occupy the country.
