Attractive apres-ski apparel, yes. Practical, no. I prefer to bundle up more and if I’m going to hurtle myself down a snowy mountain slope I’d like my clothes to be windproof and waterproof.

Painting by John Twachtman, American, 1800s
A couple of friends of mine discovered that a painting of an old barn they had hanging in their kitchen, which they bought at a garage sale for a couple of dollars, was in fact by John Twachtman. I had never heard of him. They sold the painting for a lot of money and it is now in some museum. I guess that kind of stuff does actually happen, just not to me.
