Supposed to be an awesome Northern Lights display tonight because of a big solar flare a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, it’s cloudy and going to rain tonight here so I won’t be able to see them.

That always happens to me when there is supposed to be Northeren Lights up here. Cloudy and/or rainy at my place. I’ve never seen them. Have you? It’s a beautiful picture.
Yes, actually I did see a stunning display of Northern Lights. Back in 1989. The display I saw was all brilliant almost blinding white light and glowing dark red. Also, a circle of light formed in the middle of the sky and then shot bright white lights downward. Definitely the most over-the-top awesome experience ever. The solar storm blew up my friend’s TV and the whole Quebec fed power lines (feeding New England and the Maritimes as well) went down (black out).
