Lightning (GIF – Click to activate)

Once I was in Mexico going from Veracruz back to Puebla/Cholula… It was at night, and after having successfully driven way up high in the mountains up a winding, narrow road with few guardrails and speeding trucks with no brakes coming down you don’t get to a mountain top in the end but a vast expanse of flat, high desert. And there was a huge lightning storm going on. The scene looked like this except with maybe three times as many lightning bolts at the same time. The storm lasted for more than an hour. I was in awe. And a little scared.

  1. The area I was talking about was between those two cities (Puebla and Veracruz) in the high desert plateau above the steep slope down to the coastal plain. I bet it’s a place of frequent T-storms because of the uplift from the moist Gulf of Mexico hitting the dry, high altitude air. Have fun be safe!
