I took this picture a couple of Octobers ago. I dug out a shallow pond (by hand!) out behind my house and used the dirt to build a small garden. The pond isn’t very big or very deep but it’s a nice little feature in my yard. Fortunately, dragonflies and birds keep the mosquitoes at bay. I’ve seen a Great Blue Heron in there a few times, a few ducks, and kingfishers. Sometimes the pond dries out in the summer if it’s hot and dry. Then the bottom is just blanketed in bright green moss, not caked out dry mud.
