As the lead actor said just before this clip starts – her voice permeated my dreams – it was also so for me. Watched “Gilda” last night and then heard Rita’s acoustic singing in my dreams all night. Beautiful, haunting. Of course, the nightclub verses are also great in a razzmatazz way.
Ugh, I hope I don’t burst your bubble, but she was dubbed by Anita Ellis.
I read that the acoustic version was actually Rita singing but the nightclub version was someone else singing & dubbed in. I don’t know. Either way, she let’s her tragic face slip out at times during the acoustic version – and that’s pure Rita. Right from the soul.
Agreed. Completely underrated actress. You should see her in “Separate Tables”.
Thanks for the suggestion – I’ll see if I can find it online & watch it. I’m in a major Rita Hayworth loving streak.
