    • I vaguely recall that it came from an anti-homosexual book, like a 19th century “deviant sex” pop psychology type book. If I run across the site I found it on again I’ll see if there’s any info.

      • The use of the “irreproachably shiny fingernails” phrase as a way to identify & describe gays (in a hidden but negative way) reminds me of the more recent use, a few decades ago, of the coded phrase “men with impeccably trimmed facially hair” (or was it “neatly trimmed beards”?). Same thing, different century. La plus sa change le plus il reste la meme.

      • LOL at “lesbian version of Grizzly Adams”. I gather you are more of a bear type.

No, my ‘stache isn’t one of those pencil thin ones. It’s pretty much the generic full 1970s porn ‘stache that, like my hair, is a mix of blond, brown, and gray.

  1. The beard is only a couple of months old and I’m still not sure what I am theses days…otter? I went from Midwestern twink to “something” seemingly overnight. Getting old is just…weird.

  2. Getting old is indeed “weird”. Twink to Otter isn’t that rough a transition. Speaking of otters… The other day I hit the wildlife jackpot. I saw a real live otter! I’ve seen mink, coyotes, and coyote-wolf hybrids before but never an otter, so very rare. I told a gay hockey buddy (who lives in a city) “I saw an otter sliding down the hill in my back yard”. And he said “What’s his name?”. I meant the wild animal kind, he meant the gay sterotype kind. Funny.
