    • He was a character, that’s for sure. Funny thing is that I’ve always assumed for some reason that he was gay and when I looked it up he definitely was not and there were no rumours about him.

  1. He was probably gay as Joel Cairo in “The Maltese Falcon,” with his perfumed calling cards. Interestingly enough, in the same movie Elisha Cook, Jr. played Wilmer the gunsel. It got by the censors because they assumed gunsel means cheap crook or something. It actually means a kept homosexual–he was Sydney Greenstreet’s pet.

    • You know, it was probably from “Maltese Falcon” that I first began to wonder. But not a whiff of gayness to him according to Wikipedia.
