Apparently there was a period in the 1800s where it was quite the novelty to fabricate headless photos.

I think, if I recall correctly, that a dust devil forms on the ground and goes upward whereas a tornado forms in the clouds and goes down to earth. Dust devils can be ferocious but tornadoes pack a much bigger punch as far as wind speeds go.
