  1. in the early thirties there were many consummate gentlemen in the films. William Powell, Ronald Colman, Herbert Marshall, at times John Barrymore, and a young Cary Grant. I love them all, but William Powell is my favorite. Both he and Cary Grant could do comedy. Ronald Coleman and Herbert Marshall tend to be more serious and stiff upper lip. And Barrymore tops them all for weirdness–he’s good in everything. But for someone I could relate to, whom I’d invite to every diner party of my life, it would be Bill Powell.

  2. William Powell has always struck me as a fun guy (and he certainly had on-screen chemistry with Myrna Loy), but I’d go with Cary Grant for a guest at my dinner party.
