I don’t know more than 20 words of German so I’m not sure what this poem says but I assume it is just an ode to a fallen fellow soldier. If it says something offensive let me know and I’ll delete it. Though I am half German and half French my loyalties in both World Wars is decidedly not on the side of the Germans under Bismarck or Hitler.

I believe these photos are by George Hurrell. Joan and Franchot were married in 1935 but the union did not last long. I have never really thought much of him as an actor but I’ve read his real skill was in the bedroom, where he got rave reviews.
