Bela Lugosi and Carol Borland in “Mark of the Vampire” 1935. Carol was a huge Lugosi fan and wrote a “Dracula” themed script for him. He met her and she ended up as his daughter, Luna, in this movie. I talked with her in the early 90’s and she still loved Bela, and wore a bat pendant necklace. She was in poor health. She signed my photo “Carol,” and then felt ill and had to stop. And I’m like “Of all the times to die, you have to pick now, before you finish signing.” I held my breath, she rallied and signed her last name, and passed away soon after. I feel terrible for being so selfish, but I’m really glad I got her complete autograph.
Yah, with a steak. (She was vegetarian). Actually, she lived a little while longer, but she died within the year… I doubt I had much to do with it. I love Lugosi, and was very happy to have met someone who worked with him in his heyday.

You killed the daughter of Dracula? Does that make you the King of Vampires or something?
