    • It is no coincidence – the two were first cousins, their mothers being sisters. In reading up a bit about George V I learned that the British wanted to rescue Nicholas II from Russia at the end of the Russian Revolution and offer him and his family asylum in the UK. George V killed that plan because he was afraid that it might help incite a (communist) revolution in England. As we know, Nicholas II and most of his family were killed by the Bolsheviks but Nicholas II’s mother, George V’s aunt, was rescued by the British later on.
