The mansion that was the main setting for the 1940 Hitchcock classic “Rebecca”, written by Daphne DuMaurier. Not only is it a real place, put it still exists today on the south coast of England.

Sorry Kitten, this is a model (that was burned for the movie). Indeed, Hitchcock’s vision. Manderley was *inspired* by a real home, Menabilly, which is still around and private.
Your version is more truthier, mine is more romantical. You are right, Manderley is fictional but it was modeled after Menabilly, which does exist. I knew it was filmed in studio and that they burned a model of the house for the film – you tell by the archaic special effects. Funny that the film actually got an Oscar nomination for special effects.

Right? Maybe it isn’t as obvious on a 40×40 screen. I’ve always thought it would be fun to build a model like that one day.
