  1. I think you’re right. I only vaguely know Patricia Neal from her 2 big movies (Hud and Fountainhead) as well as meeting her in person – and have never heard of Dorothy McQuire. But Patricia Neal was not that young when she started out in movies and this is photo is obviously a younger woman. I googled Ms McQuire and the resemblance is strong. Thank goodness for my Chicago fact-checkers!

      • I met Ms. Neal back in the early 1980s. Her daughter, Lucy, and I were in a small (10 people) play writing class in high school. Lucy’s mom was the guest director/critic for an hour once. Oddly (or not, given my love of old Hollywood), my play was a one woman, one act play about an alcoholic has-been star awkwardly resembling “All About Eve” – which I hadn’t consciously realized until Ms. Neal pointed out that this role I had written better suited the likes of Bette Davis than her.

  2. The photo is for sure of Dorothy McGuire. If you haven’t seen her fine performance in the excellent “Gentlemens’ Agreement” with Gregory Peck, check it and her out.
