Thomas Edison and Henry Ford

100 tom edison henry ford cowboyTwo giants of American invention. Every North American kid learns about them in school. What they didn’t tell me (and I wonder if this is now included in elementary education or, more likely not) was about their “dark” sides. Apparently Mr. Edison actually stole his ideas for the development of electricity from Nikola Tesla, was extremely quarrelsome, and never bathed. Mr. Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Co. and the inventor of the modern factories of mass production of complex goods, was a fascist and Nazi sympathizer.

  1. not sure about Edison but I know Henry Ford was an introvert and obsessed with his company which many believed he loved more than his own wife and kids. For a long time he thought the Jewish bankers were trying to take over his company basically steal it from him, true or not he actually handed over the company to his son and pretended to invent a whole new company in order for his supposedly Jewish investors to sell all their Ford stock in order to invest in his new company, he did this so he could own all the stock himself and it worked he became the sole owner. We all know during WW2 companies, facilities and all the people and money and whatever stuff was within the borders of the Axis powers were completely took over by them Ford, VW, Mercedes and many other motorcycle and auto plants were converted by the Nazis for military production there was basically nothing anyone could do about it until the war ended. Not sure if Henry sympathized with Nazis or not because I am not him but I am pretty sure he wasn’t too happy they took over his European facilities.

  2. I didn’t meant to single out Henry Ford – you are right, There were a lot of people and companies back in the 1930s that privately, publicly, politically, or through business ties supported fascism and the Nazis. To cite just one more example – Coca Cola did a nice business with Nazi Germany. And then there’s Prescott Bush (George W. Bush’s grandfather) and not only his dealings with the Nazis but also an attempt to fund a fascist coup in the US in the 1930s. Some of these guys were just cynical businessmen out to make a buck and didn’t care who bought their wares others were more hate-filled and truly believed in the causes. Coincidentally, I just read that Ford Motor Co. this month just cut all ties with ALEC, an extremely conservative lobbying group. They are only still evolving away from their founder’s ideology apparently. I have a Ford truck for my business, it’s great, so not knocking their trucks.
