    Nice pic, generally differences are subtle in those questions, but some run for themselves while some are run for a king or Nation. Here are some info:

    Corsairs were mandated by a King in order to destroy enemy commerce. Famous french corsairs were Jean Bart (who saved France in 1704) and Surcouf, there are many others of course !

    • I vaguely remember that there was a difference based on whether they were plundering for themselves or for a nation, thanks for confirming that. In any case, the buccaneer in the illustration looks better dressed than your typical pirate in mismatched, dirty clothes. Supposedly Blackbeard buried a pile of loot in the greater Acadia area (Nova Scotia/Maine) but I haven’t found it yet.
