I have to correct you here. This is the Lusitania leaving New York very early in her career, possibly the return trip of her maiden voyage in 1907. A similar picture showing her arrival on her maiden voyage shows the spectators in vehicles of various sorts. Note that construction has only just begun on Pier 56 (to the right), but by 1909 the major structure of Pier 54 (on the left), where Cunard ships berthed, would be nearing completion.
