  1. Louise Brooks in “The Canary Murder Case” (1929), with William Powell. They shot the movie silent in 1928, and afterward Louise went on to Germany and great fame with Pabst. When they decided to dub the film and release it as a talkie, Louise wouldn’t return to the States to do her lines, so her voice was dubbed by someone else.

    • Cool! I didn’t know anything about the picture but was not-so-secretly hoping you might enlighten me. Though I’m fairly familiar with a lot of 30’s & 40’s films I really don’t know about the silent era.
