Been busy, busy, busy

I’ve been busy last few days – catering a wedding party, going to a wedding party as a guest, and catching up on my regular work.

Last night I went to the very northern tip of this here island I live on and sat down to watch a fireworks show on the mainland, 6 or 7 miles/10 or 12 kilometers straight ahead of me to the north. I could see the fireworks just fine and there was a time delay across the water with the sound.

But then I noticed a small orange ovoid shape in the sky to the left/west of me. I thought it was  a plane flying way up high. Planes flying between the big US east coast cities and Europe fly over head, way over head, all the time. But their lights are white and red and blink. This was distinctly orange and moving to the right/east of me a little in front of me but not far from right over my head. And it was getting bigger and brighter as it moved to my right. And bigger and brighter till it was a bright orange, glowing oval with a short glowing orange trail – about the size of a good sized sofa flying through a  very wide open sky. Then it suddenly disappeared.

The big finale of the fireworks started up and I did not watch them as I was still slack jawed and looking to my right where the meteorite had gotten so big then disappeared. It better have been a meteorite! Or else you can count me in with the freaks who have seen a UFO out in the wilderness, alone.

POSTSCRIPT: It was indeed a “fireball meteor” that I saw – it was reported in several places on the ‘net that a large fireball was visible along the New England coast and Canadian Maritimes on Monday night.
