    • I am mostly cutting spruce through the season, and a little bit of red maple. For every one spruce tree I cut down 1000 babies spring up. They are insidious and my island is no danger of being left treeless. It’s a battle I’ll never win, a Sisyphean task. At least I get paid for it and I get a great workout.

    Just for the record – I’m doing landscaping cutting as opposed to clear cutting acres and acres for pulp or lumber. So much smaller scale. Plus now that I’ve put the chainsaw away it’s time to start… planting trees! Yes, I plant trees too. Mostly apples and cherries.
