Although this wonderful poster looks quite old, I suspect is is a relatively recent mass market copy. In the original Fantomas has something in his hand–a knife, I think. There exists a book cover from the 40’s, same pose, in whiich he has a rose in his hand!
That hand on the left (his right) does look awkward and I did see another version (which was horizontal and he did have a knife in that hand). One poster might have been for the original book/magazine cover and one for the 1913 film. It was a popular French horror series over a 100 years ago.
It does look like something should be in his hand on the left (his right hand), seems an awkward pose. I did find one poster for the 1913 movie where he is holding a knife. But there was also a magazine or book the movie was based on so posters could be different for both. Popular French horror serial now over 100 years ago.
