Although they were mostly known for giving the same standard response to readers problems (go to counseling or ask your clergyman for advice) they actually were extremely progressive in their social and sexual views and helped move America in the ’70s and ’80s toward a society that is (and I’m speaking very broadly here) more tolerant of racial minorities, gays, women, etc. And they were sisters that allegedly didn’t get along but that wasn’t true.
